“Greatness is what we on the brink of…” ✊🏽🏳️‍🌈

Over the last year, I was behind the scenes working with the Big Ten Conference (@bigten), as a member of the LGBTQ+ working group. In the last 12 months, we went from dreaming of hosting an LGBTQ+ Symposium to bringing over 100+ people together from all 14 schools!

Along with building the program, I was also featured on a panel with Joi Thomas and Patrice Palmer (@blaq_edukator), discussing the “Intersectionality of Identity,” moderated by Danielle Pulliam.

Thank you to the Big Ten Conference for giving me the space to walk beside y’all and become the first Power 5 conference to host a symposium geared towards uplifting and supporting the LGBTQ+ community.

After my keynote address at the 2023 Black Student-Athlete Summit (@bsasummit), I was sitting on the steps of Bovard Auditorium on USC’s campus, when Greg Hernandez (@greginhollywood), Writer for USC News, walked up to me.

He was one of the first people to thank me for openly acknowledging why colleges and sports needs to embrace the LGBTQ+ community, especially on such a large stage in front of 1,400+ people.

“Be Your Authentic Self!” ✊🏽🏳️‍🌈🫶🏽

A slogan I live by every single day. It is no longer a choice for me to hide the identities I carry because the world continues to tell me they hate these parts of me.

I’m proud to be Black, Lesbian, Woman… I wear these three identities like a badge because I know the next generation needs me too. I need to show up authentically and take up space, so that those coming behind me don’t have to fight as hard.

Finding Common Ground at the 2023 NCAA Inclusion Forum ✊🏽🏳️‍🌈

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to travel to Indianapolis to speak on the work I’ve been doing as a member of the NCAA Common Ground Leadership Team. The attendees has an opportunity to participate in an exercise that we usually run at our yearly Common Ground sessions. The goal was to drive individuals to share their experiences back on campus so they can attend one of our upcoming programs.

It was also great to catch up with my colleagues at my first conference, in person, since the pandemic began.

Today, I had the opportunity to speak at the University of Maryland (@univofmaryland) in @drkrismarsh class on Race, Class, Gender and Sports.

Really enjoyed our great conversation and sharing the true realities of College Athletics regarding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Earlier this month, Resa Lovelace presented at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (@njacsports) inaugural DEI Summit for all Head Coaches.

During my presentation, I asked the coaches to see that “The Game is NOT bigger than the People.”

As we navigated the conversation, I challenged the coaches on the actions that they took during the height of social unrest, specifically towards Black and LGBTQ+ communities. On Tuesday, April 5th, @_hamptonu is hosting its annual Sports Management Summit, “Exploring the Mental Health Crisis in Sports.”

The summit was created to provide opportunities for awareness of mental health issues within the Athletic community. The intent is for participants to receive an in-depth perspective from people who have experienced it, and develop a better understanding of what resources are available.

The program centered Black voices sharing how to amplify our truths, advance joy, & protect our peace in your career journey. We were honored to be one of the four voices on this panel.

💎 Work should never be about family but building community to fulfill the mission.
